John Burns

John is one of the UK’s foremost compliance experts in payment services having worked in senior positions for the Association of Payment and Clearing Services, the Payments Council, the Financial Services Authority (FSA - now the FCA) and major banks, including Lloyds. He joined Compliancy Services in 2015 to lead their Payment Services Practice after spending three years as Senior Manager, Compliance Advisory, for Global Transaction Banking at Lloyds Bank where he also acted as subject matter expert on payments. Prior to that he was the FSA's Technical Specialist on Payments for almost five years. In his role at the Financial Services Authority, working alongside HM Treasury, John helped to draft and then implement the original Payment Services Regulations and E-Money Regulations. He was also a member of the European Commission’s Payments Committee, the European Central Bank’s Forum on the Security of Retail Payments and the European Banking Association’s Standing Committee on Consumer Protection and Financial Innovation. John is a regular speaker and trainer on compliance matters for payment services firms and the implications of PSD2. This has included events hosted by and for leading international law firms and many of the key trade associations.
